Project Challenge

Since the Lyndon B. Johnson {LBJ) Expressway was built almost 40 years ago the LBJ Expressway it became one of the most congested roads in the United States. A five-year 13.3-mile expansion construction program added six (6) new toll lanes to the 1-635 section and four on the 1-35 section of the expressway.

The Solution

Before construction work could begin for expansion of the expressway, the water, sewer and telecommunications facilities had to be relocated to allow for the planned driving lane expansions. The Housley Group was contracted to relocate these utilities at a contract cost of $16.4M.

Outcome

Our work on this project significantly contributed to the overall expressway project.

It was completed 3 months ahead of schedule, and on budget with zero contingencies, fines or environmental penalties.
